Advantages of Being a Fundraiser

The fundraiser can work with people

Being a fundraiser is one advantage that you can work with people. You do not have to make a presentation or you do not have to analyze data as other people out there have to work like this all day just sitting in front of a computer screen.

You will get a chance to meet new people and talk to many different types of people which can increase your communication skill.

Not only is it about your communication skills but also it will make your day interesting.

The fundraiser can support projects they like most

Working as a fundraiser, you are also able to support projects that you like most. For instance, you can choose by yourself which institution or company you want to work for and you can also choose your employer’s rendering of the project they are working for.

This means you do not have to work for those projects which are unreliable to you. Hence, you can work for any other company or organization which is more interesting and good in your eyes.

The fundraiser can do good things for others

Being a fundraiser, you can also get a chance to do sorting good for others. Specifically, if you work for a public institution, you can collect money for the poor people to help them out with money.

On the other hand, other people in some other profession just have to sit in the office, in front of a computer screen and do their work for their living. But here in this profession, you can help other and poor people for their living.

The fundraiser has rather flexible working hours

Working as a fundraiser, you will get flexible working hours. This means you do not have a scheduled time for your office.

Like other people in other professions have scheduled working hours like starting from 9 am to 6 am.

While, in this profession, you will get flexible working hours, even if you have children at home, whom you have to drop or pick up from school can just leave your office and come back later.

Fundraisers have a decent work-life balance

Another advantage of being a fundraiser is that you will have a decent work-life balance. As we discussed, you will have rather flexible working hours, which means you can give time to your family and friends.

As you can also do this profession as a hobby for a few hours each day. Many people in this profession do not have to work for more than 40 hours a week.

A fundraiser may start their non-profit firm

Another upside of being a fundraiser is that you can start your non-profit firm. No doubt, that in the beginning, you have to work in an office or any institute to gain some knowledge and experience in this profession, and then you can simply start your non-profit firm and instead of working for people you can make people work for you.

The fundraiser can build a strong network:

As a fundraiser, you can build a strong network. As you have to collect funds from the rich people in this profession, you can make a strong network by this.

They will be interesting, as they are donating money for the projects and you have to answer their questions. While having a conversation both the parties can get to know each other.

Disadvantages of Being a Fundraiser

Fundraiser needs a college degree

There are many disadvantages of being a fundraiser. One of them is that you need a college degree to become a fundraiser. This means that you just cannot start saving after completing high school.

Also, you have to spend a few more years to get a college degree and to start earning money. Hence, make sure that you are ready to spend money and time on your college degree before choosing this profession as your career.

Student loan debt is a problem

As we discussed, you have to spend more money on a college degree. You may need to take a student loan for having tuition or for paying college fees.

Make sure that you are ready to take this student loan burden or else make sure that you have enough savings to complete your college.

Fundraiser rather has low job security

Working as a fundraiser, you will rather have low job security. While if you are a good person who can bring lots of funds by convincing people for funds then you may have high job security, but like most of the average fundraisers, they have rather low job security.

Hence, you can never be sure that you can bring a large number of funds to your company for any project.

Fundraisers do not earn much money

While a good fundraiser can earn a decent amount of money, on the other hand, an average fundraiser cannot earn much money to live a luxurious lifestyle.

To get success in this field you have to understand people very well. If you are failing to understand people then you cannot do well in this profession.

Working as a fundraiser can be frustrating

Another disadvantage of being a fundraiser is that you can feel frustrated. While in this profession you have to convince people to contribute funds, even if you are good at convincing people.

But most of the time you will get a reply of “no” from the people you try to convince, which is pretty annoying. And sooner or later you will feel frustrated in this profession.

A fundraiser may get fired if they are not able to collect enough money

As we were discussing in the previous point, most of the time you will get “no” in reply while convincing people of their contribution.

For this reason, you may not collect much, and for this, you may get fired by the company pretty soon. Even many of the fundraisers get fired because they cannot complete the goal of collecting funds.
