Advantages of Homemade Chocolates

  • Homemade chocolates are healthier than the ones available in the market:

When you make chocolates at home, they are much healthier than any chocolate available in the shops. You can easily use a higher ratio of cocoa powder and some natural sweetener like maple syrup or agave syrup instead of artificial sugar. Chocolates available in the market do not use such ingredients and are therefore, not as healthy.

  • Homemade chocolates are very easy to make:

Making chocolates at home is not that difficult. The easiest recipe involves melting the chocolate compound and allowing it to freeze in any mould of your choice. Now, if you want to make chocolate at home from scratch, then you will have to create a mixture of cocoa powder, cocoa butter, water, whole milk, sweetener, and salt. The mixture can then be poured into moulds. Both processes are quite convenient to follow.

  • Homemade chocolates are cheaper than the chocolates you buy:

If you make your own chocolates then that will be much cheaper than the chocolates available in shops. You can buy all the ingredients in bulk and use the utensils available in your kitchen to melt, blend and freeze the chocolate. Good quality chocolates can be very expensive, but once you have a reliable recipe you will not need to spend so much.

  • Homemade chocolates are of better quality:

You can never be too sure about the quality of the chocolates that you are buying. However, with homemade chocolates, you can definitely go for the top grade ones. This is because you get to pick and choose the very best ingredients for your chocolate and so, the quality will never be compromised.

  • You can have any shape or size of chocolate you want:

The chocolate moulds available in the market can be of various sizes and shapes. Often one mould will have an assortment of shapes. You can easily buy such equipment and create any kind of chocolate that you want. However, when you buy chocolates, your options are somewhat limited.

Disadvantages of Homemade Chocolates

  • You might not have the right equipment to make the chocolate:

While sometimes you can make do with the utensils available in your kitchen, you might not have every equipment required. It is important to have the right kind of vessel to mix the cocoa powder and cocoa powder or to create a double boiler. Without the right equipment, it is very difficult to get the right consistency of the chocolate.

  • It is difficult to get the temperature of the molten chocolate right:

When you melt the chocolate compound or create a mixture of cocoa powder, cocoa butter, milk, sweetener and all other ingredients, you have to bring it up to a certain temperature. If you are unable to do that then your chocolate will not set properly. The temperature of the mixture can be very difficult to achieve as it is affected by the humidity and also by the amount of heat you are applying.

  • All the ingredients that you need might not be available:

If you are making chocolate from scratch, then you might not find all necessary ingredients in your local store. You might have to order certain ingredients online and in that case you will not be able to check the quality. If all the ingredients are not available, then you will not be able to make your chocolate.

  • Homemade chocolates cannot be stored easily:

After you make your chocolates, you will have to store them. But storing homemade chocolates is quite difficult. Chocolates that you buy from the shop have preservatives and do not melt when kept outside. However, your homemade chocolates might not last a long time as they do not contain any preservatives. Also, you will probably have to keep them in the refrigerator at all times as otherwise, they will melt.

We are often unable to enjoy certain foods because of health restrictions. Chocolate is one such example. However, if you can customise your chocolate then you can definitely enjoy it to the fullest. But, buying chocolates made from completely natural ingredients can be quite expensive.

Therefore, instead of spending so much on specially made chocolates, it is better to have your own homemade chocolates. Now, homemade chocolates do have certain disadvantages. You cannot wrap them up in foil and store them for a very long time. They will melt or go bad after a while. You might not have the correct utensils. But if you are able to get your hands on proper appliances and ingredients, you can easily make chocolates in batches.

When made in small batches, they will not go bad. You and friends can enjoy these delightful treats whenever you want. With homemade chocolates, you can save a lot of money and also keep an eye on your health, without compromising on the taste or quality of the chocolates.
